TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Summer construction has brought delays to Interstate 70, and projects will continue between Terre Haute and Indianapolis in the coming months.

A spokesperson for Indiana Department of Transportation said patchwork that has caused the highway to go to one lane between State Road 42 and the 29 mile marker will continue through July.

On July 25th, crews will begin to work near Little Point, closing one lane in both directions. This roadwork is projected to continue through the end of October.

Spokesperson, Megan Delucenay, said the reason for the construction was the constant wear-and-tear that stretch of highway sees.

The planned patchwork has been in the works for a while. I-70 issuper heavily traveled, so many semitrucks go through there daily,” she said. “It’s important that we take these maintenance steps to make sure that the pavement can handle it and to kind of eliminate the times we have to go out there.”

Officials have recommended taking US-40 between Indianapolis and Terre Haute as a detour. More information on construction projects and detours can be found on the INDOT website.
