Academy Sports and Terre Haute Women’s Club team up to bring shoes to Vigo County children

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Academy Sports gifted $750 worth of shoes to the Terre Haute Women’s Club ‘Shoe Bus’.

The shoes will be donated to children in Vigo County. This is the 4th year that Academy and the Women’s Club teamed up to bring shoes to kids in this area.

“It’s such a fantastic and worthy cause,” Academy Sales Manager Gail Cochran said. “Over the years we’ve actually gotten to go out and distribute the shoes, and to see how excited the kids are to get new shoes is amazing.”

The last year for the Women’s Club has been difficult due to the inability to host events. The club’s Vice President, Heather Wolf, said that it has been a struggle to provide shoes to the kids.

“We have such a huge need and it’s even increased due to COVID,” Wolf said. “People have lost jobs so they’re more kids in need in the Vigo County system.”

Wolf went on to say that large companies reaching out and helping is vital to keep their cause alive.

“We just appreciate their generosity in helping us get the shoes to our community,” Wolf said.
