TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Terre Haute South Science Olympiad Team is gearing up for its big state tournament this weekend.

The competition features nearly two dozen events that specialize in different areas of science. Students normally compete in multiple events.

Terre Haute South won its regional competition and will move on to the state tournament held at Purdue Northwest. If they win, the team would go to the national tournament.

Josh Cho is a member of the team and said that he competes in multiple events.

He explained that he, and other members of the team, have been meeting every Thursday since November to practice for the state tournament.

The group has won regionals in the past but has never advanced past the state competition. Cho said that they have good shot win the state tournament and potentially move on to nationals.

“I’m really stoked to compete in it,” Cho said. “Our school has made it three or four times in a row so we’re hoping to make a big splash.”

After graduation, Cho said that he plans to stay in the STEM field.
