SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – One Sullivan resident gathered supplies to aid victims of the deadly tornadoes in Mayfield, Kentucky.

Kristi Irwin organized a community effort to gather and personally deliver supplies to the affected area.

On Monday, area residents dropped off food, bottled water, and personal necessities at the First Christian Church on Broadway.

Irwin witnessed the tragedies unfold in the media and said that this inspired her to take action. She said the response was tremendous, and explained why they wanted to help.

“It could have been us. Very easily the storm could have made its way to Sullivan and it could have very easily been us and we just want to lend a helping hand where we can.”

Irwin said that she plans to travel to Mayfield to deliver the supplies.

“As it was all unfolding, it was so devastating,” Irwin said. “It pulled at my heart to think of all the families that lost loved ones.”
