TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A 20 year old driver is behind bars after leading police on a chase throughout Terre Haute.
According to TPHD Chief, Shawn Keen, the pursuit happened near 19th and 8th Ave. and it ended after the vehicle stopped near 6th and Linden Street.
The driver was identified as Marquan Burgess, he was taken into custody after passing medical clearance.
Burgess was charged with Felony and misdemeanor resisting, failure to Identify, possession of marijuana, and reckless driving.
During the pursuit, a responding officer was involved in an accident with another vehicle at 19th St. and 2nd Avenue.
The female officer and a 6-year-old female passenger in the other vehicle were treated and released from a local hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle was identified as Stephanie Smith. The 26-year-old was cited for a learner’s Permit Violation, no insurance and possession of paraphernalia.
Due to policy, the officer was taken for drug and alcohol testing.
The investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
