SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College celebrated a century of honoring students’ academic achievements.

Friends and family filled the Church of Immaculate Conception to witness more than 100 juniors and seniors receive the symbolic onyx Woods Ring.

President Dottie King said the ring is awarded to those who make satisfactory academic progress.

“When I touched the hands to put on the rings they most always shake,” King said. ” Some of the time it’s due to adrenaline, and other times it comes with a sense of gratitude, they recognize what others have sacrificed so they could be here.”

Thousands of dollars were awarded at the ceremony with six students receiving full or partial scholarships.
