First responders on scene near Knightsville, Ind. worked to contain an accidental release of gasoline from a Marathon pipeline Tuesday.
According to Marathon spokesperson Shane Pochard, the release was discovered around 5:40 a.m. from the RIO Pipeline that runs from Lima, Ohio to the Marathon Petroleum Refinery in Robinson, Ill.
Pochard said it is believed approximately 300 barrels of natural gasoline were released. Recovery efforts are currently underway.
He noted the company’s main priorities at this point are ensuring the safety of the public and first reponders at the site, as well as protecting the environment.
Air quality monitoring conducted by Marathon and local authorities has not indicated any concerns at this time.
