BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Update: A Terre Haute woman has died following a car vs motorcycle crash on SR 59 in Clay County.
According to the Brazil Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 3:14 p.m. on Friday, July 29 at the intersection of N Forest Avenue (State Road 59) and Normandy Drive.
According to one driver involved and a witness on scene, the crash happened when a car that had been headed north was stopped attempting to make a left turn onto Normandy Drive. A motorcycle approached from behind the vehicle and attempted to pass the car on the left side just as the car began to turn. The motorcycle crashed into the driver’s side of the car ejecting both the driver and passenger of the motorcycle, with the bike coming to rest in the yard of a nearby house.
The motorcycle was driven by a Roachdale, Indiana man who police say had an expired learner’s permit with no valid motorcycle license. The driver was incapacitated and the passenger on the motorcycle, Dorothy E. Taylor, 52, of Terre Haute was killed in the crash.
The crash report noted neither individual was wearing any safety equipment at the time of the crash.
The crash report cites improper passing as the primary factor for the crash.
