SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Team Vigo Leadership Conference kicked off Monday at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
100 Vigo County high school students who display leadership qualities in school were selected to participate in the three day event, where students will have the opportunity to connect with dozens of local leaders.
Dr. Rob Haworth, Vigo County School Corporation Superintendent, set a goal of 50,000 hours of community service from the students for the upcoming school year. Haworth acknowledged some may believe the number is too high, but he said he is confident his students will be able to hit that target.
“The community would be surprised if we added up what we’re currently doing,” Haworth said. “We’re just making it aware that we’re here and we’re giving back to the community.”
Students will present their individual plan to hit the goal on Wednesday.
