1 person arrested after shots fired on ISU campus

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute police have arrested a person in connection to an incident of shots fired on Indiana State University’s campus Friday morning.

According to the Terre Haute Police Department’s Facebook page, officers were in the general area of 7th Street and Wabash Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. Friday when they heard several gunshots coming from the area of 7th and Cherry Streets.

Further investigation led to officers hearing gun shots in the area of ISU’s Federal Hall. Officers found Yantre J. Edwards of Terre Haute trying to leave the area and discovered he had been firing a gun in a parking lot.

Shell casings were found and two firearms were seized as evidence. Officers also later determined a third floor window of Federal Hall was damaged by gunfire after finding broken glass.

No one was hurt in the incident, although a custodian was inside Federal Hall at the time the shots were fired.

Edwards was arrested and faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Recklessness
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated

Edwards’ case is pending in Vigo County Division 1 Court.
