SULLIVAN, Ind (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: Indiana State police have confirmed that the victim involved in this crash has since succumbed to her injuries.

According to ISP Sgt. Matt Ames, Gloria J. Lumsdon, 78, of Sullivan died after being transported to an Indianapolis hospital.

Original: A Sullivan woman was flown to Indianapolis with serious injuries following a two-car crash on US 41.

According to Indiana State Police, the crash occurred at the intersection of Section Street and US 41 in Sullivan at approximately 7:50 a.m. Wednesday. Investigating troopers found that a passenger vehicle driven by a 78-year-old woman from Sullivan had attempted to cross over the northbound lanes of US 41 to turn southbound, but a pickup truck was headed north at the same time.

The northbound truck, driven by a 43-year-old Bicknell man, crashed into the drivers side of the passenger vehicle.

The Sullivan woman was extricated from the wreckage by first responders and taken to a Terre Haute hospital with serious injuries. She was then flown to an Indianapolis hospital for further treatment. The driver of the pickup truck suffered only minor injuries. He was taken to the Sullivan Community Hospital and has since been released.

The crash caused the closure of northbound lanes for a time as crews cleaned up the scene. All lanes of US 41 were re-opened at approximately 8:10 a.m.
