WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Leaders of the planned health clinic and pharmacy in West Terre Haute continue to search for funding for the project.
For West Terre Haute residents finding health care services often means traveling outside of the city.
“We don’t have a doctor’s office and no pharmacy either so if you can’t get it in the dollar store, you can’t get it,” said Sister Dorothy Rasche, director of Connecting Link.
A collaboration between Valley Professionals Community Health Center and Sisters of Providence will change that.
In June of 2019, it was announced that the groups would bring an over 4,700 square foot pharmacy and clinic to West Terre Haute.
“Valley Professional Community Health Center sees patients regardless of their ability to pay. We will never turn somebody away regardless of what type of insurance they have,” said T.J. Warren, CEO of Valley Professionals Community Health Center.
There’s a mostly empty lot where the clinic is planned along 6th Street and West National Ave, but that doesn’t mean progress is not being made.
Estimated construction costs for the facility sits around $1.2 million dollars and Warren says through donations and grants $62,000 dollars for the project has been raised.
It continues to be the cost that has put construction on hold.
“We have the schematic drawings, we have everything planned out and ready to break ground tomorrow if we can get the funds,” Warren said.
Both Warren and Rasche hope that through the help of the community, they can continue to work towards meeting a need in West Terre Haute.
“Every dollar counts, it doesn’t matter if it’s a dollar or $500. We really appreciate everything we can get,” Warren said.
“We kept our grade school, we’ve kept our library, we’ve kept our community center. So we’re just really pumped up that is one more need that we can meet,” Warren said.
One source of assistance that this project is receiving is a matching grant from the Community Foundation.
They will donate $1 for every $2 raised by leaders of the health center up to $50,000.
