Sunday, the bridge at State Road 163 in Clinton was closed for two and a half hours as negotiators spoke with an individual threatening to harm himself.
According to the chief of the Clinton City Police Department, Billy MacLaren, at approximately 6 a.m. the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department received calls of a suicidal individual in Clinton near Blackman and South Water Street.
McLaren says when law enforcement arrived the subject was in a vehicle with a weapon and was not willing to make contact with police.
According to McLaren just before 10 a.m. the individual stepped outside of his car to surrender to police, and he was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department, Rockville Police Department, Parke County Sheriff’s Department, Clinton Police Department, and Terre Haute Police Department were on the scene of the incident.
