VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – While fears about the coronavirus grow around the globe, local health officials say there’s currently not much concern about the virus in the Wabash Valley.
Roni Elder, a health educator with the Vigo County Health Department, says the people currently most at risk are those traveling to and from China or those who have had close contact with people who did.
Elder says the health department works with local hospitals and clinics. Those facilities will let the health department know if a case occurs locally.
“If we had a case of coronavirus in our county, we would work with the state. We would monitor the patient. Make sure they’re not showing any symptoms,” explains Elder. “If they are showing symptoms, make sure we’re working with the state to make sure that it’s an isolated situation and doesn’t spread.”
Elder reminds people that we’re also still in flu season, so she says people should stay home if they’re sick and use good hygiene like washing your hands often.
