BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Another effort to make roadways safer for children was active Friday.
Chances and Services for Youth and CRADLES of Clay County held a car seat check in Brazil.
Those who attended the event were able to have their car seat thoroughly inspected to ensure child safety.
Staff with CASY also say they were able to provide new car seats for those who may need one.
With many car seats being installed incorrectly, leaders at Friday’s event say having the equipment checked is important.
“9 out of 10 car seats are installed incorrectly. Part of that reasoning is either the seat is too loose, it’s not the right size for the child or the child is either too big or they’re in a car seat too big for them. We’re out here trying to make sure every child that leaves here will be leaving safe,” said Brandon Halleck, COO at Chances and Services for Youth.
Halleck says there will also be a permanent car seat fitting station available at the Booker T. Washington Community Center in Terre Haute.
