Local dentistry plans to take practice overseas for mission trip

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – This fall, employees from Dentistry Just for Kids, a local dentistry in Terre Haute, will be taking their practice international.

Seventeen members of the office will be participating in the dentistry’s first mission trip to the Dominican Republic.

The team will leave on November 16 where half of the trip will be spent at a local hospital in the Dominican Republic.

The second half will take place on the road as the team brings dental hygiene to low income families in the sugar cane field communities.

Dentistry Just for Kids has been active in the Wabash Valley community for years, Pediatric Administrative Team Leader Erin Overman said the team is ready for an international challenge.

“The children in these sugar cane communities, they’re often forgotten. They don’t have any financial support, they don’t have governmental support. They’re kind of just left on their own,” she explained. “We want them to feel like they’re not forgotten. We want to give them hope and educate them on dental and oral hygiene.”

The team will be in the Dominican Republic until November 28 and hope to have many more mission trips overseas.
