Local Crews Providing Blizzard Recovery Help

A blizzard is now blasting the northeastern United States, but some locals are lending a helping hand.

Duke Energy has deployed 3,600 workers to the East Coast to assist.

And, 200 of the workers are from Indiana.

The Hoosier crews made their way East yesterday.

They’ll help with assessing work and restoring power.

Duke Energy says sending workers to other parts of the country is a balancing act.

“It’s a balance of reliability, keeping the lights on here in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley as it is anywhere we serve. Duke Energy, we serve Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, North and South Carolina and Florida. That’s a lot of territory. That’s a lot of territory and a lot of people to keep the lights on for,” says Rick Burger with Duke Energy.

Burger says local crews are currently in North Carolina.

They’ll be helping with damage assessment and power restoration for 10 days or longer.
