Two bricklayers from Terre Haute are celebrating a big honor and bragging rights, after winning a regional bricklaying competition in Illinois.

Marty Marrs and Tony Savant of Marrs Masonry in Terre Haute, have been named the champions of the 2018 Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 Regional Competition in Frankfort, Illinois.

Tri-State Cut Stone and Brick in Frankfort hosted the event,  just one of 24 others being held across the country.

This year’s event drew 11 teams of highly skilled bricklayers, and Marrs and Savanat beat them all with a total brick county of 587.

The two will each receive prizes of a Marshalltown tool bag, Stablia level, $500, a trip to Las Vegas, and the title of “Illinois’ Best Bricklayer.”

But the two men can’t rest just yet.

Marrs and Savant will compete once again in January for the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 World Championship at the World of Concrete in Las Vegas.

If they win, they could walk away with $125,000 in cash and prizes, including a Ford 4250 XLT 4X4 truck and John Deere Gator.
