Linton man in custody following fatal hit and run

One man is in custody following a fatal hit and run in Jasonville Monday.

Jasonville Police arrested 66-year-old Billy R. Schubla of Linton, as the driver of Monday night’s accident.

JPD along with other first responders were dispatched to the area of the 400 block of West Main Street in Jasonville where they found an unresponsive 54-year-old male.
Witnesses told JPD that the suspect vehicle was an older Ford truck that fled westbound on Main.
The unidentified victim was airlifted to Terre Haute Regional Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

On Tuesday, officers, using evidence from the crash scene and video obtained for various businesses, narrowed the suspect vehicle as an 1982 or 83 Ford F-150 XL truck. Using BMV records for Greene, Sullivan and Clay counties, officers tracked down every truck that matched the description of the suspect vehicle, which led them to Schubla.

Schubla was transported to the Greene County Jail and charged with failure to stop after an accident Resulting In Death a Level 5 Felony.

“I am EXTREMELY PROUD of my guys today!” Jasonville Police Chief Jim Gadberry wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. “Most of them including myself have had very little sleep in the past 24 hours and it paid off! My guys solved an arson case last week in less than 24 hours and we put closure to this one in less than 24 hours and I just don’t know how you can ask for any more out of an awesome bunch of guys!”
