Laying foundation for new Vigo County Jail taking longer than planned

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Laying the foundation of the new Vigo County Jail has taken longer than usual due to wet soil. That’s according to Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse.

The 56 million dollar project broke ground in December of 2019, after several construction bids were awarded under the umbrella of Garmong Construction Services.

We spoke with Garmong Construction Services in early January, and at the time they expected to have the new jail’s foundation laid by the end of 2020.

The project began after a federal judge ordered Vigo County officials to begin the project due to conditions and overcrowding at the current jail.
