Illinois lawmakers received more bad news of getting a cut in their paycheck.
Governor Rauner signed a bill that freezes their salaries and other perks like mileage costs and lodging expenses. The bill passed the house and senate with an almost unanimous yes vote.
Many lawmakers felt the pay increase would be unfair to taxpayers amid a fiscal crisis, and many people agree, they hope the pay cut will push lawmakers to act faster in the future.
Each lawmaker is paid $111 each day of a special session.
In total, it costs taxpayers nearly $50,000 to bring them to the Capitol. Without the freeze, that cost each day would’ve increased to $142.
