Keeping Kitties Safe on Halloween

For centuries black cats have been associated with bad luck, magic, ghosts and ghouls.

And these superstitions become even more prevalent during Halloween.

Whether you love them, or you walk the other way at the sight of them, black cats evoke all types of emotions.

During Halloween shelters all over urge pet owners to keep their animals inside, black cats and all.

And some shelters can even deny adoption of black cats during the season in order to prevent any harm from coming to the them.

At the Humane Society of Sullivan County black cats are still up for adoption, however staff take extra precautions during the screening process.

“We wanna make sure that, you know, someone’s not gonna hurt them for whatever purposes or rituals that some people might participate in,” said kennel staff Heather Hayes.

Twelve black cats are up for adoption at the shelter in Sullivan, IN.
