TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Ivy Tech Community College announced Wednesday the availability of new full-ride scholarships for active Indiana volunteer firefighters or EMS personnel.
The scholarships, made possible through a partnership with the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, will allow recipients to earn a two-year degree free of tuition. First established in 2019, the program aims to recruit and retain volunteer first responders in an effort to address the growing shortage in rural Indiana.
The scholarships will available for the Fall of 2021 and all volunteer EMS personnel can enroll in almost any Ivy Tech academic program. Any person is eligible so long as they are enrolled at the college as a degree seeking student and are in good standing with a volunteer fire department.
The offer applies to all future and current Ivy Tech students, the college says, although recipients must maintain a certain grade level and academic progress to remain eligible.
First responders should visit ivytech.edu/volunteer to apply for the scholarship to attend Ivy Tech Terre Haute or Greencastle. Call (812) 298-2280 for more details. Ivy Tech fall classes begin August 18.
