ISU student athletes learn personal, career development skills

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Athletes at Indiana State University got the chance to learn some skills off the field Monday night.

The Sycamore Leadership Academy was held Monday on campus, where men and women from from every sports team were invited to learn about leadership, career, personal and professional development.

Brooke Porter, student athlete success coach, said these kinds of events are important for students athletes because they are pulled in so many different directions and may not have such opportunities.

“So giving them this opportunity that is designed around their competition and practice schedules, and it’s very specific and directed and intentional programming, that is so important for their futures, their careers,” Porter said.

Last year 40 student athletes attended the program and this year 52 students attended.
