Inmate Accused of Officer Attack

Two officers are recovering, and a prison housing unit is on lockdown, after an inmate allegedly attacked a guard at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility.

A press release from the Carlisle prison says Christopher Conwell attacked Sgt. Christopher Holcomb, hitting him in the face with his fists. Another officer immediately intervened and restrained Conwell.

The inmate is serving a 110 year prison term for two homicides. Sgt. Holcomb suffered a fractured eye socket, lacerations, knee and elbow injuries. He’s being treated at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Officer Christopher Simmerman was treated for a bump on the head. Officials speculate the inmate was upset about receiving a rule violation report yesterday.

Officials expect that Conwell will be charged for the assault.
