INDIANAPOLIS (WXIN) — A woman escaped an attempted rape in a wooded area just off the Monon Trail Saturday, according to a police report obtained by Nexstar’s WXIN.

Officers were called around 4:45 p.m. on a report of an attempted rape on the Monon trail near 71st street.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who told them she walked off the Monon Trail onto a wooded trail where a man pushed her to the ground. According to the report, the suspect pulled down the woman’s pants and underwear and “repeatedly” tried to cover her mouth as she screamed for help.

As the woman fought her attacker, a good Samaritan came to her aid and the suspect ran off.

The victim was transported to an area hospital. Police were able to recover a lighter that the suspect possibly dropped during the incident.
