ORIGINAL STORY:

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after a person was shot and critically injured inside a gas station on the city’s southeast side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to a BP gas station in the 4900 block of E. Thompson Road — located just a block west from the intersection of Thompson and Emerson — at around 1:12 p.m. on report of a person shot.

Officers reported finding one adult male who was listed in critical condition as a result of the shooting.

A suspect reportedly fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Police stated that detectives believe the shooting began as a disturbance inside the gas station that turned into multiple shots being fired. The victim was found just outside the entrance doors to the gas station.

“People need to find a different way to resolve issues,” said IMPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Genae Cook. “Resolving an issue with a weapon is not the answer. All you do is cause further issues.”

Fox 59 spoke with the girlfriend of the man who was shot, Cheyenne Sego. She says he went into surgery after being shot in the chin and the side.

“I hear four to five gunshots and i see a man run out of the gas station and my boyfriend runs out and was covered in blood,” said Sego.

“I then proceed to try and call the police and the ambulance to get some help. they arrived and obviously took over from there.”

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact IMPD or call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.

“This area is quiet, for the most part,” she added. “We don’t have a lot of problems through here. This is going to be a shock to the neighborhood,” said Cook.
