Indiana COVID-19 cases nearing 80,000, increases continue locally

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health on Saturday announced that 1,096 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19, bringing the state total to 79,676.

Locally, 33 new cases were reported in Vigo County, 13 new cases were reported in Daviess and Knox Counties and 11 new cases were reported in Sullivan County. Other counties with new cases included Greene County with four new cases, Vermillion with two new cases and Parke and Martin with one new case each.

A total of 2,921 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 15 over the previous day following corrections to the previous day’s total.

Another 207 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days. 

As of today, 35.2 percent of ICU beds and nearly 81 percent of ventilators are available across the state.

To date, 897,615 tests for unique individuals have been reported to ISDH, up from 886,489 on Friday.
