‘In Their Shoes’ hosts second annual walk for homeless veteran awareness

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The second annual In Their Shoes walk served as a time of awareness.

About 25 to 30 people joined together at Next Step Foundation on Washington Avenue in Terre Haute and took a 1.1 mile walk to Reach Services on Hulman Street.

Walkers, both young and old, were encouraged to envision themselves with the challenges that the homeless population may face.

The walk’s organizer said the event serves as an opportunity to get others to take action.

“It’s important for me, for the community to open their eyes and realize the issues that we have,” said Danielle Elkins, organizer of the event.

The walk coincided with Pancakes for Patriot, which was held at the Fraternal Order of Police lodge across the street from Reach Services. This was part of Operation Vanguard.
