(WTWO/WAWV) Special Olympics Illinois is about to begin.

To kick off the event the Torch Run is underway. It made its first stop.

Police and residents gathered at First Robinson Savings Bank. Law enforcement throughout Illinois will carry the “Flame of Hope” nearly 1,500 miles during 23 different legs of this journey.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising effort benefiting Special Olympics Illinois.

It has raised more than 51 million dollars during the last 33 years.
