CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that construction on Illinois 16 between the west city limits of Charleston and Interstate 57 will begin Monday.

The project involves pavement patching and will require daily lane closures. At least one lane will be open at all times, and access to businesses in the work zone will be maintained.

Work is expected to last approximately three weeks.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.

To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered.
