Hymera school receives donation for special needs playground equipment

News

Friday, Hymera Elementary School received a big donation to help add playground equipment for special needs children.

The philanthropic organization 100 Women Who Care of Sullivan County presented the school a check for $6,300.

Hymera kindergarten teacher Tina Ficklin submitted a proposal describing the needs of the school and the group chose it to receive grant money.

The money will be used for items including a wheelchair swing and a sandbox digger.

According to Ficklin, play is an important part of every child’s education.

“As we all know, school funding is being cut cut cut cut and some of the things to go first are some of the things that are very important like play for children,”Ficklin said. “I am a teacher who believes in play. So I think everyone needs to be able to play. Everyone.”
