Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly wants to designate an official day to honor veterans of the Vietnam War. Donnelly, a democrat, has joined with Pennsylvania republican Pat Toomey to author a new bill.
“This bipartisan bill would help our country honor our Vietnam veterans, who didn’t get the recognition they deserved when they returned home,” said Donnelly.
The legislation would recognize Vietnam vets and designate March 29 as “National Vietnam War Veterans Day. March 29 marks the day that combat and combat support troops withdrew from South Vietnam.
“These are our friends and neighbors who should have our gratitude for their selflessness and sacrifice,” said Donnelly.
The bill passed the Senate today, and now moves to the House for consideration.
