Hometown Hero William “Bill” Welch

June 6, 2019 is the 75th anniversary of D-Day. And in August of 1944, Bill Welch of Terre Haute landed on Utah Beach. He was part of General George Patton’s 3rd Army that helped free Europe from Hitler’s tyranny.
Welch was an artillery sergeant who spent hundreds of days fighting for freedom and victory.
In a few weeks, part 2 about this Hometown Hero will focus on Welch’s life during peacetime. He became a successful and well-known coach, who used his military experience to inspire and teach many student-athletes.
