Our latest Hometown Hero is Harold Plunkett. We featured Harold in a story late last year of his service to America during World War Two as a ball turret gunner under a B-17 bomber over Italy.
Harold joined the service the day after Pearl Harbor and served for the duration, taking part in over 50 missions over Italy and surviving to tell the tale.
He spent his time under the belly of two planes, named Peggy O’Neill and Wylie Witch, the second one carrying him the most times who met her fate at the had of enemy guns.
Harold and his family have done a marvelous job of preserving his military service with pictures and documents that bring to life his service and sacrifice for America over 75 years ago.
For all this Harold Plunkett is the perfect example of what it means to be a Hometown Hero.
