Holiday Travel

News

Highways and interstates here at home and across the country are going to start filling up.

Folks will be heading to vacation spots, graduations, and family gatherings. Some drivers already got a head start Thursday. However, It’s expected to get even worse Friday and Saturday.

AAA is forecasting about 40-million people will travel at least 50 miles from home this holiday weekend, the most in more than a decade.

Indiana State Master Trooper Tom Hanks says ISP will be out in full force this weekend in efforts to help assist in making travel traffic flow smoothly. Police say it’s the simple things that often lead to disaster.

“We want everybody to have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. We have stepped up patrol enforcement on The main roads and secondary roads so we’re looking for seatbelt violations, speed, and anything that will cause a traffic accident,” says Hanks.

Trooper Hanks advises trailers going through different states to make sure to do some extra research on states’ individual laws. State police and AAA websites are a good place to start.
