ILLINOIS (WTWO/WAWV) — Violent winds created harsh road conditions for travelers along Interstate 70 Wednesday night. In fact five wrecks in the Wabash Valley can be attributed to the storm.
Illinois State Police reported multiple crashes along the road caused by the severe crosswinds along a 30-mile stretch.
Along Clark, Cumberland and Effingham counties, high winds caused a total of four semi-trailers and a box truck to turn onto their sides before coming to a stop, some blocking lanes of traffic.
Those involved in the crashes were taken to area hospitals with reports of minor injuries.
