Health department has tips to avoid mosquitoes

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Vigo County Health Department is offering tips to prevent yourself from getting attacked by mosquitoes.

They suggest wearing a bug spray containing “DEET”.

Even though it may be warm out, they also recommend wearing long sleeves and pants, especially if you’re going to be in wooded areas.

Finally, make sure there’s no stagnant water in your yard.

Officials say everyone can work together to prevent mosquito breeding grounds.

“Our vector will be out spraying as long as weather permits. It is our season to do that, so we will be trying to do our part. That’s why we just ask that you do your part. Make sure you’re dumping out the water in your yard,” says Roni Elder, Health Educator and Media Coordinator.

When spraying starts the Vigo County Health Department will post maps of areas to be sprayed on its website.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can call the department’s Vector Control at 812-234-9181.
