Giving Back, After Losing

News

By this time in the year, most people have abandoned their New Year’s resolutions but today the local YMCA gave back in a big way.

The 4th annual “Lose A Ton, Give A Ton” loaded the truck full of 12 hundred pounds of donated food for the Vigo County School’s Back Pack Program to be distributed to students. With this 14 week challenge 11 organizations, with 152 people joined in. They stuck to those resolutions since January, and each pound they lost they donated back in pounds of food. Those involved say it really motivated them to keep going.

“I’ve really watched it make a difference, I’ve known some of those students that really only have two hot meals a day when they are at school and sending them home with peanut butter and apple sauce and fruit and mac and cheese I think it makes huge difference in their lives,” says Amy Demchack the Coordinator for Wellness at the Vigo County YMCA.

Wabash Elementary School was the winner this year, shedding the most with 198 pounds as a group. If you would still like to donate you can drop food items off at the Vigo County YMCA at your convenience.
