An event at a local bowling place helped to give back to an organization that gives so much to others. The Garrett Sands Kindness Project has helped the community in many ways. It passed out free, gently used prom dresses and suits. And it also coordinated community clean up efforts, among other things. But none of that is easy without money. People were able to take part in the bowling at Vigo Bowl until midnight on the 20th, donating money so the Garrett Sands Kindness Project can continue.
“All of this, being Garretts mom, and something happening like this to me and to my family just knowing how my son has impacted other people to support the Garrett Sands Kindness project has meant alot to me, has meant alot to my family, knowing that people care about him and they care about the acts of kindness that we do in his memory and we’re just carrying on what Garrett did”, said Jayna Sullivan, mother of Garrett Sands. “Garrett did kind things for other people and so that’s what we’ve made our mission.”
The man who pleaded guilty to shooting Sands, Nathan Derickson, is still waiting to be sentenced.
