TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two resolutions were approved Thursday, pushing ahead plans to move the Terre Haute Police Department into a new location.
The Terre Haute Economic Development Commission and the city’s Redevelopment Commission approved resolutions to issue two bonds for the project.
The $13 million in bonds will be used to buy and upgrade the old Tribune-Star building on 7th Street.
The next step will be the city council’s approval, which is expected to happen Thursday evening.
The Department of Redevelopment’s director said he expects it will pass.
“In regard to the police station, it’s badly needed. We haven’t heard any objections. And we think it’s a very good project. Something our department needs very badly,” said Steve Witt.
Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett said the money provided will also go toward building a garage at the new location and storing K-9 equipment.
