The state of Illinois is preparing to take on the U.S. Department of Education; and Attorney General Lisa Madigan is leading the effort.
The suit says: the department is violating the law by refusing to enforce regulations that protect students from predatory schools.
The gainful employment standards were put in place in 2014.
Schools must meet a debt to income ratio to receive federal aid.
But since July, those rules have been on hold.
“I would want to know what i’m making.. and what I will be bringing in when I finish here, everybody else would. That’s one of the most important things they should tell you here…and they do.” – Lizzie Dent, Dental Assistant Student
In 2015, 43 programs in 13 Illinois institutions did not to meet federal standards
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy Devos argues these rules are unfair for schools; those rules will remain on hold while she rewrites regulations.
