Fontanet community members gather for 123rd Annual Bean Dinner Festival

News

FONTANET, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An annual tradition that dates back to the 1800s included one thousand pounds of beans and 150 pounds of bacon.

The Fontanet community gathered for the 123rd annual bean dinner to enjoy live music, games, and their bowl of beans.

The event stems from a Civil War veterans picnic that took place in 1890 near the Dupont Powder Mill. When the mill exploded, the event switched venues.

The dinner began on Friday, July 26th and will continue through Saturday, July 27th.
