CLARK Co., Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Clark County Sheriff Bill Brown said 66-year-old Charles Egner of Florida was found safe Saturday morning after going missing Wednesday while hunting in Martinsville.
Conservation Officers said Egner was found in a unique way.
“We received information that a hunter that hunts a property just to the east of here, who’s currently hunting in Canada had a cellphone based trail camera out and reviewing his cellphone camera he saw a picture he believed was Chuck,” said Sgt. Brian McReynolds, with Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Officers immediately took action, finding Egner sitting on a log in the woods nearby.
“He was confused and obviously he was dehydrated. But as the officer walked up to him he was sitting on a log, he was actually eating some acorns when they found him,” said Sgt. McReynolds.
According to officials, Egner went missing Wednesday after he did not return from his evening hunt. They said he also has dementia.
Several agencies and volunteers assisted in the search for Egner.
“It’s very rewarding for everybody that was involved. That Chuck’s here. Nobody gave up,” said Sheriff Bill Brown.
Egner was taken to an area hospital for observation and will be returning to Florida with his family.
