A popular and moving tribute is back in place for Memorial Day. Today, volunteers placed thousands of American flags around I.S.U’s Memorial Stadium.
About 7,000 flags now line a sidewalk around the stadium. They represent the fallen men and women who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.
There’s also a “Memorial Wall of Names” just outside the stadium. Organizers say, remembering the fallen and their families is so important.
“If you listen you can hear discussions about sacrifice and honor and remembering,” said Olivia Goulding, event organizer.
On Monday, bike riders are encouraged to meet at the stadium for another special event. At 9:30, the “Ride for the Fallen” will depart the stadium and make its way to Griffin Bike Park. The ride honors fallen service men and women, including Sgt. Dale Griffin. The Terre Haute native lost his life in Afghanistan.
Once at the Griffin Bike Park, there will be a special ceremony, food and fun.
