Next Monday, ceremonies will take place to honor this country’s fallen heroes. But, one of the more impressive displays of appreciation is at Veterans Memorial Park in Terre Haute.
About 7,000 American flags now line a sidewalk around ISU’s Memorial Stadium. They represent the fallen men and women who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. There’s also a “Memorial Wall of Names” just outside the stadium. Organizers say, remembering the fallen and their families is important.
“I think this event proves that there’s a lot of people in this community who want to come together who want to honor those that have given everything and they want to honor those who are left behind,” says Organizer Olivia Goulding.
On Memorial Day, a “Ride for the Fallen” will start at the stadium around 9:30 AM. The bike ride will head to Highland Lawn Cemetery for a ceremony, then to Fowler Park, and it will end at Griffin Bike Park, which is named in honor of Sgt. Dale Griffin, a Terre Haute native who lost his life in Afghanistan.
