TERRE HAUTE, Ind., (WTWO/WAWV)– The First Financial Wabash Valley Classic kicked off Thursday at Terre Haute North High School.
The tournament began at 10 a.m. with Terre Haute North against Edgewood High School.
The First Financial Bank has sponsored the tournament for the past five years.
The tournament consists of 16 high school basketball teams across the Wabash Valley.
Tournament Director, Ticia Wright, says their first priority is creating a good experience for both the players and the fans.
“If you’re a basketball fan in Indiana, it’s a premiere tournament to come to,” said Wright.
The tournament is a large fundraiser for the high school basketball programs, and the bank’s sponsorship allows them to stay involved in the community.
“As a bank, we have a footprint in a lot of these communities. We always try to be good stewards in those communities we serve. We always look for ways to give back and this community is a great way to do that,” Wright said.
The tournament will continue through Monday with a break on Sunday.
Day passes for the tournament can be purchased for $7 or an All-Tournament pass can be purchased for $20.
