A local community continues to work toward revitalizing downtown. On Thursday, the city of Sullivan received support for those efforts.
First Financial Bank presented Sullivan with $5,000.
It’s the private sector contribution Sullivan needed as part of a Main Street Revitalization grant from the state.
The money will be used to make a lot of streetscape improvements. Those include new sidewalks, beautification and a new brick trail for pedestrians and bicyclists.
“It’s going to be a wonderful trail that comes through downtown and what the trail system does is it gives people an intriguing walk. It gets people out,” says Mayor Clint Lamb.
Sally Whitehurst with First Financial Bank says supporting this project was a natural decision for the bank.
“We’re about community. We’ve been here for decades. We are so excited for this project,” says Whitehurst. Part of the walking trail will go right in front of First Financial Bank’s location in Sullivan.
As part of the downtown revitalization, a private developer will also construct 13 new apartments and service retail space on the south side of the square.
