First COVID-19 case in Greene County reported

GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Health leaders in Greene County announced the first positive COVID-19 case in the county Saturday afternoon.

The patient was tested at Greene County General Hospital through the Indiana State Department of Health, according to a news release from the hospital.

Citing privacy laws, the hospital said no other information about the patient would be released. The hospital also said proper personal protective equipment was used during the patient’s visit.

“GCGH and the Greene County Health Department continue to follow ISDH and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines,” the release said. “In addition, Greene County Health Department’s Health Officer, Dr. Pete Powers, continues to urge the public to stay home.”

A case of COVID-19 was incorrectly reported in Greene County earlier in March. That case was removed from the state tracking map once the error was realized.
