First Congregational Church sends blessings to backpacks and teachers

News

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– This morning, First Congregational Church hosted their second annual “Blessing of the Backpacks and Teachers” event at Deming Park.

The event began with a church service, followed with a picnic lunch. Children of all ages and college students brought their backpacks and school supplies to be blessed by the pastor at the service.

The church also honored one of their Sunday school teachers who will be retiring. Their co-pastor told us the church has many upcoming plans for their youth and adults, including confirmation classes.

The co-pastor Kathi Elliott said, “We just want to do a blessing to send them off to have a safe, happy school year, hopefully a healthy school year. Today is extra special because we’re also honoring one of our Sunday school teachers who is retiring after teaching at our church for 43 years. We’re honoring her and giving her a good send off for all that she has done at the church.”
